Etienne Chambaud was born in 1980 in France and lives and works in Paris. He works on the morphology of separation, involving exhibitions, objects and situations. Seven years ago he launched a raft named “Idéalisme”, which drifted in the Atlantic Ocean with a geolocation device on board to reconfigure the world atlas. He staged an encounter between monkeys and geometric shapes in a zoo. He has used febrile objects, mobile phones restricted by architecture, and the insides of animal hides. He has written on walls with stones, and directed the film Counter-History of Separation (with Vincent Normand), tracing the common history of the guillotine and the modern art museum from the French Revolution to the end of the 1970s. His solo exhibitions include The Naked Parrot, LABOR, Mexico (2013), Undercuts at Bugada&Cargnel, Paris et Forde, Geneva (2012), The Encored Separation at Art Unlimited, Basel (2011), and in 2010, Contre-Histoire de la Séparation at CIAP, Vassivière; Objets Rédimés at Bugada & Cargnel, Paris; The Decapitated Museum, Sies + Höke, Düsseldorf; On Hospitality, LABOR, Mexico; and the three-part exhibition The Sirens’ Stage (David Roberts Art Foundation, London), Le Stade des Sirènes (Kadist Art Foundation, Paris), and Lo stato delle sirène (Nomas Foundation, Rome). He also had an exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 2009 entitled Color Suite.
