In the summer of 2019, Raphaël Dallaporta worked at Espace 365, a space focused on artistic research and creation. To write with light, he built a 4.5 m high chair tilting toward the sky, as a giant sundial. The shadows cast by each visitor daring to sit in the chair were marked to form a constellation of traces on the ground. For the calculations, he worked closely with astronomer Denis Savoie, a specialist in gnomonic projections.
The audience celebrated the September 2019 equinox with the inauguration of a meridian line at Zone Sensible. There, with a memorable alignment of the stars, the last market garden of the Seine-Saint-Denis department became the center of the world.
Today, Raphaël Dallaporta is working a number of different projects. At Galerie Jean-Kenta Gauthier, he is presenting Equation of Time, an exhibition inviting the spectator to consider the difference between the standard time of our watches and true solar time. He is also participating with seven other artists in FREE LUNCH, an exhibition proving that there is indeed such a thing. Finally, his work will be part of the Rencontres photographiques exhibition at the reopening of the Museum of Time in Besançon.
