In residency at the Lungomare cultural centre in Bolzano (Italy) since 2018, Sophie Krier is currently working on her “School of Verticality” project. Starting with the question, “Where on Earth do we belong?”, Sophie Krier’s work takes human and animal stories and blends them with their habitat and with history, creating an interface between art and ecology and exploring themes of belonging and memory.
The artist began working on the project in the summer of 2018, and her work will be unveiled to the public at three key events: “Seeding Stories” in February; “Breaking Bread” in April; and “Overtime: Weaving moving boundaries” in May. Stéphane Verlet-Bottero will join Sophie for the May event to co-write four issues of an underground magazine entitled “Overtime Papers”.
